I too wonder more about whether conductive metals used with an apex tree may influence the morphology of surrounding vegetation. Unfortunately that part of the tree is long dead however.
It is all rather curious frontiers. Perhaps it is all just angles of light from the sun and electrotropism or magnetotropism don't even apply.
